Overview
The Gel Mobility Shift Assay (GMSA) is a laboratory technique used to study the interactions between proteins and DNA or RNA. It measures how light and heavy molecules move when exposed to an electric field. GMSA is a highly sensitive and specific method for determining protein-nucleic acid interactions, and is used to identify and characterize proteins related to gene regulation. It is especially useful for detecting transcription factor proteins, which control the expression of specific genes. GMSA can also be used to study DNA-protein recognition, the structure of proteins, and protein-protein interactions. GMSA is an essential tool for understanding gene regulation at the molecular level, which is critical to understanding the mechanisms of complex diseases and developing effective therapeutics.
