What the journal asks of the editors who handle its manuscripts.
Editorial authority rests with the editors; these guidelines describe how it is exercised.

Handling
Taking a manuscript
An editor confirms that a manuscript falls within scope before it goes further, and declines to handle any manuscript where a personal, professional or financial interest could be seen to bear on the decision.
Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request. Manuscripts that proceed to external peer review are normally evaluated by at least two independent subject-matter experts.
Editorial decisions are based on scope, scientific quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and relevance to the journal.

Confidentiality
The manuscript is confidential
- Before publication. A submitted manuscript is confidential. Its existence, content and fate are not discussed outside the editorial process.
- Double-blind handling. When double-blind review is requested, editors must ensure that author-identifying information is not shared with reviewers.
- No personal use. Unpublished material is not used for an editor’s own work or passed to anyone who might.

Assisted review
Using AI in the editorial process
Reviewers must obtain journal permission before using AI to assist with a review. Any permitted use must be disclosed, and confidential manuscript content must not be uploaded where confidentiality cannot be assured.
Editors apply the same standard to their own handling, and ask reviewers about it where the review suggests assisted drafting.

Own submissions
When an editor is an author
Editors recuse themselves from decisions on their own submissions, and those manuscripts are handled independently. Editing for the journal confers no advantage in the review or acceptance of that person’s own work.
