Sending a manuscript to this journal

The Journal of Digestive Disorders and Diagnosis accepts manuscripts by three routes. Use the one that suits you; they reach the same editorial office and the same review process.

Whichever route you use, the manuscript is screened, reviewed and decided on identical terms. The route changes nothing about how the work is read.

The routes

Three ways to submit

Primary route

The submission system used across Open Access Pub journals.

ManuscriptZone

Alternative route

A simple submission form that opens with this journal already selected.

Manuscript submission form

Assisted route

Editorial email, for authors who would rather send the manuscript to the office directly.

[email protected]

One route only

Authors must use only one submission route for the same manuscript.

Sending the same manuscript by more than one route creates duplicate records and delays the work.

Before you send it

Four things to check

01

Subject

The work is about disorders of the digestive system — the gastrointestinal tract, liver, biliary system and pancreas — or about the methods by which they are diagnosed and assessed. The full statement is on the aims and scope page.

02

Preparation

The manuscript follows the structure for its format, with a separate title page, an abstract, keywords, numbered figures and tables, and complete references. See the instructions for authors.

03

Declarations

Ethical approval, trial registration where applicable, a data-availability statement, competing interests, funding, authorship and any AI use are all declared.

04

Review preference

Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request. If you want double-blind review, prepare the manuscript for it before submitting: For double-blind review, remove author names, affiliations, acknowledgments, funding details, institution names, and other identifying information from the reviewer manuscript. Provide identifying information separately in the title-page file or submission form.

Formats

What you can submit

These are the routine submission categories. Preparation requirements for each are set out in the instructions for authors.

Research Article

Original investigations, including clinical, translational, mechanistic, diagnostic-accuracy and population studies.

Review Article

Critical syntheses of the evidence on a defined question in digestive disease or its diagnosis.

Systematic Review and Meta-analysis

A review carried out to a stated protocol, reporting how studies were sought, selected and appraised, with quantitative synthesis where the data allow it.

Methods Article

A method, assay, protocol or analytical approach, described together with the evidence that shows how it performs.

Data/Resource Article

A dataset, cohort, registry, biobank or comparable resource, described together with what it can be used to study.

Short Communication

A concise report of a focused finding or observation.

Case Report

A documented presentation, diagnostic course or complication that teaches something generalizable.

Invitation only

Two further formats are published at the journal’s invitation rather than through open submission: Editorial — invitation only, and Perspective/Commentary — invitation only.

After you send it

What happens, and what it costs

All submissions undergo initial editorial screening. Manuscripts that meet the journal's scope and minimum requirements proceed to independent peer review. Manuscripts that proceed to external peer review are normally evaluated by at least two independent subject-matter experts.

Editorial decisions are based on scope, scientific quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and relevance to the journal. Editorial decisions are independent of fees, membership, editorial or reviewing roles, and optional author services.

There is no charge to submit. The article processing charge of USD 2,100 becomes payable only after a manuscript has been accepted. Accepted articles are published open access under CC BY 4.0, and authors retain copyright.
