Article Processing Charges
What publishing in the Journal of Experimental and Clinical Toxicology costs, when the charge applies, and what it pays for.
The charge is raised only after a manuscript has been accepted through peer review.
The charge
One charge, payable after acceptance
Submission, peer review and editorial handling are free of charge. An article processing charge is raised only when a manuscript has been accepted for publication, and it covers the production and permanent open-access availability of the published article.
Manuscripts that are declined are never charged.

Withdrawal
If a manuscript is withdrawn
Authors should contact the editorial office promptly and wait for written confirmation before submitting the work elsewhere.
Manuscripts withdrawn within 3 days of submission are not subject to a withdrawal charge.
Manuscripts withdrawn more than 3 days after submission incur a withdrawal charge equal to 30% of the journal’s APC.
Authors must receive official withdrawal confirmation before submitting the manuscript to another journal.

Peer review and editorial handling
Identifying and inviting reviewers, coordinating the assessment, and preparing the decision and the correspondence that follows it.
Production
Copy-editing, typesetting, figure preparation, XML generation, author proofing, and registration of the article’s DOI and metadata with Crossref.
Availability
Hosting the published article for open access, distributing its metadata to discovery services, and committing the content to Portico for long-term preservation.
Paying, and asking
Practical points
After acceptance the corresponding author receives an invoice from the publisher’s billing office with payment instructions. Charges are quoted in United States dollars.
Decisions remain independent of fees, membership, editorial roles and paid services. Payment plays no part in the assessment of a manuscript, and an accepted article is not withheld from review or decision for any reason connected to the invoice.
Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request.
Authors who need to discuss the charge, institutional arrangements, or the journal’s membership program should write to the editorial office before submitting, which is the point at which options can be considered.
