Ecosystem-Based Fishery Management of Antarctic Krill (Euphausia superba) to Support Baleen Whales and other Predators Production Adapted for Potential Climate Change Effects

Antarctic krill feed baleen whales and are taken by seals, penguins and seabirds, and a commercial fishery draws on the same stock. The paper applies ecosystem-based fishery management so that predation is carried inside the calculation of fishing mortality, with attention to the Antarctic Peninsula and to possible climate effects on krill abundance.

What these two have in common
The two articles in this issue come from opposite ends of the journal's subject: one follows the biting behavior of a mosquito that transmits a human parasite, the other sets a fishery against the predators that depend on the same prey. Both are questions about animals in a system, and about what follows for the people managing it.
