Weather, and how it changes
Peer-reviewed research on how the atmosphere behaves and how it changes — atmospheric processes, weather variability, the observations and models that describe them, extreme events, and the consequences that follow.
The journal reads across the whole of weather science: a process study, an observing-system paper, a prediction method and an impacts analysis are assessed with the same seriousness and published in the same place.

Synoptic and mesoscale circulation, convection, boundary-layer exchange, cloud and precipitation physics, radiation and composition.

How that is established
Observing systems and instruments, radar and satellite remote sensing, reanalysis, data assimilation and quality control.

How well it is predicted
Numerical prediction from nowcasting to subseasonal range, ensembles and probabilistic methods, and forecast verification.

What follows from it
Storms, floods, drought, heat and wildfire weather; water and agriculture; early warning, preparedness and adaptation.

Manuscripts are welcome throughout the year. Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request. Manuscripts that proceed to external peer review are normally evaluated by at least two independent subject-matter experts.
