What this journal is for

The cause is characterized, the preventive measures exist, and the distance between the two is itself a research question.

Journal of Cervical Cancer publishes work on both sides of that distance. Research on viral and cellular mechanism, on biomarkers and tumor biology, on vaccination, screening and diagnosis, on treatment and outcomes, and on how programs perform in defined populations belongs in one record, because each of these constrains what the others can claim.

The remit follows the journal’s title rather than any single method or setting. Laboratory, clinical and population studies are read against what their own designs can support, and the subject defines the journal, not the techniques a study happens to use.

The territory

Four regions of one subject

Journal of Cervical Cancer publishes peer-reviewed research across the full course of cervical cancer — biology and pathogenesis, human papillomavirus and other etiologic factors, prevention and vaccination, screening and early detection, diagnosis, treatment, survivorship and outcomes — in laboratory, clinical and population research.

These regions overlap by design. A single study often sits in more than one, and the journal reads them as parts of a shared subject rather than stages in a sequence.

Cause and mechanism

Human papillomavirus biology and the viral oncogene function behind malignant transformation; other etiologic factors and co-factors; cellular pathways, genomic and epigenetic change, tumor biology, and the model systems used to study them.

Populations and access

Epidemiology, determinants of uptake, health-services and implementation research, and the studies that establish whether prevention and care reach the populations they were designed for.

Prevention and detection

Vaccination and its coverage; screening strategies, triage and diagnostic assessment; the performance of tests and programs, and the evidence by which that performance is established.

Treatment and outcomes

Clinical management across surgical, radiotherapeutic and systemic treatment, supportive and survivorship care, and the outcomes against which each of them is evaluated.

Who the journal is for

A readership that has to read across its own boundaries: an evaluation of a screening program and a study of viral oncogene function are about the same disease. Contributions are welcome from any of these directions, and what the journal looks for is work that states plainly what its evidence will carry, so that a reader arriving from another direction can use it.

Clinicians and clinical researchers
In gynecologic and radiation oncology, pathology, obstetrics and gynecology, and primary care, where the disease is detected, treated and followed.
Virologists and molecular scientists
Working on HPV biology, cellular transformation, biomarkers and the mechanisms of tumor development.
Epidemiologists and public-health researchers
Studying incidence and determinants, vaccination and screening coverage, and the reach of prevention.
Health-services and implementation researchers
Examining how screening, vaccination and treatment are delivered in the settings where care actually happens.
Editorial responsibility

What the journal undertakes

A claim about a molecular mechanism, a claim about how far a program reaches, and a claim about a clinical outcome are established by different kinds of evidence. Each manuscript is read against the design it actually used.
Editorial decisions are independent of fees, services, memberships and roles.

All submissions undergo initial editorial screening. Manuscripts that meet the journal’s scope and minimum requirements proceed to independent peer review.

Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request.

Manuscripts that proceed to external peer review are normally evaluated by at least two independent subject-matter experts.

Editorial decisions are based on scope, scientific quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and relevance to the journal.

Articles are published open access under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0), which permits reuse with attribution, and authors retain copyright. An article processing charge applies after acceptance; the current amount is published on the journal’s Article Processing Charges page.
