What to have ready
Every route asks which type you are submitting under. The seven routine types are Research Article, Review Article, Systematic Review and Meta-analysis, Methods Article, Data/Resource Article, Short Communication and Case Report. Editorial and Perspective/Commentary are published by invitation. They are not routine submission types, and the editorial office commissions them directly.
- The manuscript file, prepared as one of the seven routine types and carrying the structure and declarations set out in the Instructions for Authors.
- The reporting-guideline checklist that matches your study design.
- Ethics approval details and the basis of participant consent, where the study involves people or animals.
- The trial registry name, number and date, for an interventional clinical trial.
- A data-availability statement.
- Competing-interest declarations for every author, and every funder with its award reference.
- Written permission for any material reproduced from another source.
- A separate title page with identifying information, if you are requesting double-blind review.
After it arrives
All submissions undergo initial editorial screening. Manuscripts that meet the journal’s scope and minimum requirements proceed to independent peer review.
Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request. Manuscripts that proceed to external peer review are normally evaluated by at least two independent subject-matter experts.
Editorial decisions are based on scope, scientific quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and relevance to the journal.
An article processing charge of USD 1,200 applies after acceptance; there is no submission fee. The complete terms, including the withdrawal policy, are on the Article Processing Charges page.
Editorial decisions are independent of fees, services, memberships and roles.
