The charge
The article processing charge is applied only after a manuscript has been accepted. There is no submission fee, and no charge is raised while a manuscript is under consideration.
Authors retain copyright. Articles are published open access under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0), which permits reuse with attribution.
The charge has no bearing on how a manuscript is reviewed. Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request.
Editorial decisions are independent of fees, services, memberships and roles.
What the charge supports
- Editorial handling and the coordination of independent peer review
- Copyediting, typesetting and preparation of the published article
- DOI registration and the deposit of structured article metadata
- Online hosting and continued availability of the published record
- Deposit into the journal’s digital-preservation arrangement
Withdrawal policy
These terms apply from the moment a manuscript is submitted.
- Authors should contact the editorial office promptly and wait for written confirmation before submitting the work elsewhere.
- Manuscripts withdrawn within 3 days of submission are not subject to a withdrawal charge.
- Manuscripts withdrawn more than 3 days after submission incur a withdrawal charge equal to 30% of the journal's APC.
- Authors must receive official withdrawal confirmation before submitting the manuscript to another journal.
Billing and fee-relief inquiries
Invoicing follows acceptance, and the editorial office can supply the documentation institutions and funders require for grant reporting. Many institutions hold arrangements that meet open-access charges on an author’s behalf; authors are encouraged to check with their library or research office while planning a study.
Authors whose circumstances make the charge difficult are invited to write to the editorial office at [email protected] before submitting, so that any available arrangement can be discussed in advance of a decision on the manuscript.
Whatever is agreed, the assessment of the manuscript is unaffected: editorial decisions are based on scope, scientific quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and relevance to the journal.
