The Journal of Digestive Disorders and Diagnosis welcomes submissions throughout the year from researchers, clinicians, and multidisciplinary teams working across digestive disease and its diagnosis.
Regular submissions are accepted throughout the year. There is no closing date, and no theme a manuscript has to be written towards.

What the journal is looking for
Work across the whole of the subject
The journal reads work on the esophagus, stomach, small and large intestine, liver, biliary system and pancreas — and on the imaging, endoscopic, laboratory, histopathological and computational methods by which their disorders are recognized.
It reads that work wherever it sits on the path from mechanism to population. A study is eligible because of its subject, and it is judged against the claims it makes rather than against a fixed requirement for clinical outcomes.
Mechanistic and translational work
How digestive disease arises, and what moves a finding from the bench towards use.
Diagnostic research
Development, validation, comparison and interpretation of the methods used to detect and characterize digestive disease.
Clinical investigation
Trials, cohorts, case series and well-documented single cases, including complications and unexpected courses.
Epidemiology and prevention
Risk, screening, surveillance, and the distribution and determinants of digestive disease in populations.
Health services and delivery
How diagnostic and treatment services are organized, reached and sustained.
Methods, reviews and negative results
Methodological critique, critical synthesis, and findings that did not confirm the hypothesis.
Formats
What you can submit
Research Article
Original investigations, including clinical, translational, mechanistic, diagnostic-accuracy and population studies.
Review Article
Critical syntheses of the evidence on a defined question in digestive disease or its diagnosis.
Systematic Review and Meta-analysis
A review carried out to a stated protocol, reporting how studies were sought, selected and appraised, with quantitative synthesis where the data allow it.
Methods Article
A method, assay, protocol or analytical approach, described together with the evidence that shows how it performs.
Data/Resource Article
A dataset, cohort, registry, biobank or comparable resource, described together with what it can be used to study.
Short Communication
A concise report of a focused finding or observation.
Case Report
A documented presentation, diagnostic course or complication that teaches something generalizable.
Invitation only
Two further formats are published at the journal’s invitation rather than through open submission: Editorial — invitation only, and Perspective/Commentary — invitation only.

How to submit
Routes and terms
All submissions undergo initial editorial screening. Manuscripts that meet the journal's scope and minimum requirements proceed to independent peer review. Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request. Manuscripts that proceed to external peer review are normally evaluated by at least two independent subject-matter experts.
Editorial decisions are based on scope, scientific quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and relevance to the journal. Editorial decisions are independent of fees, membership, editorial or reviewing roles, and optional author services.
One route only
Authors must use only one submission route for the same manuscript.
