Instructions for Authors

The journal publishes research that makes a clear contribution to energy conservation, energy efficiency, or the integration of renewable energy into sustainable energy systems, across generation and conversion, storage and networks, energy end use, methods and assessment, and policy and economics.

Claims of performance improvement should include appropriate validation and uncertainty analysis, and cost assumptions and sensitivity analyses should be reported when they are relevant to the methods and claims. The full statement is in the Aims and Scope.

Title page

A concise title of up to 150 characters, all author names and affiliations, the corresponding author’s contact details, the word count, and conflict-of-interest disclosures.

Abstract

A structured abstract with background, methods, results, and conclusions, followed by 4–6 keywords.

Main text

Introduction, methods, results, and discussion. Methods give enough detail for replication, including protocols, measurement techniques, statistical approaches, and system specifications.

References

One consistent reference format throughout the manuscript.

File format

Microsoft Word, double-spaced, 12-point Times New Roman, 2.5 cm margins, with pages numbered consecutively.

Figures

At least 300 dpi, supplied as separate TIFF, JPEG, or EPS files, each with a descriptive legend.

Tables

Editable, with clear headings and explanatory footnotes, and without repeating data shown in the text or figures.

Supplementary files

Additional data, calculation details, or supporting information, in clearly labeled files.

• Every empirical research manuscript must include a data-availability statement.
• A complete conflict-of-interest disclosure for all authors and all funding sources.
• Industry partnership disclosures and permissions for proprietary technology.
• Environmental impact assessments and regulatory compliance documentation, where required.

Studies involving proprietary technology or industry partnerships should describe data ownership, access restrictions, and confidentiality requirements while maintaining scientific transparency.

Interventional clinical trials must be registered in an accepted public trial registry at or before the first participant provides consent for enrollment. The registry name, registration number, and registration date must be reported in the manuscript.

Every listed author meets established authorship criteria: a substantial contribution to conception, data acquisition, or analysis; drafting or critical revision; approval of the final version; and accountability for the work. Contributors who do not meet these criteria, including industry contributors and technicians, are acknowledged.

For double-blind review, remove author names, affiliations, acknowledgments, funding details, institution names, and other identifying information from the reviewer manuscript. Provide identifying information separately in the title-page file or submission form.

When revision is requested, respond to every reviewer comment point by point and highlight the changes in the revised manuscript.

Accepted articles are published open access under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0), and authors retain copyright. Production begins once the article processing charge is paid.
