The International Journal of Neonatology welcomes submissions throughout the year from researchers, clinicians, and multidisciplinary teams working across neonatology and newborn health.

Invitation
An open, year-round call
Regular submissions are accepted throughout the year.
The journal exists to give research concerning the newborn a dedicated scholarly venue, reviewed by people who work on the newborn, and an openly available permanent record. A manuscript belongs here when a neonatal question is the substance of the study rather than its setting.

These areas indicate the range of the journal’s interest rather than its limits. The full statement is on Aims and Scope.
Neonatal critical care
Ventilation, CPAP, and hemodynamic stabilization in the newborn intensive care unit.
Prematurity and developmental care
Care of extremely and very low birth weight infants, and neurodevelopmental follow-up.
Neonatal brain injury
Hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy and therapeutic hypothermia.
Neonatal surgery
Congenital anomalies and the management of necrotizing enterocolitis.
Infection
Neonatal sepsis and congenital infection diagnosis, with antimicrobial stewardship.
Nutrition and growth
Enteral and parenteral nutrition, and human milk fortification.
Clinical, translational, laboratory, methodological and population research all belong here when a neonatal question is central to the work.

How it is assessed
What happens to a submission
Screening and review
All submissions undergo initial editorial screening. Manuscripts that meet the journal’s scope and minimum requirements proceed to independent peer review.
Review model
Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request. Manuscripts that proceed to external peer review are normally evaluated by at least two independent subject-matter experts.
Decision criteria
Editorial decisions are based on scope, scientific quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and relevance to the journal.
Decisions remain independent of fees, services, membership, and editorial or reviewer roles.
Charges
There is no submission fee and no charge for review. The article processing charge is invoiced only after acceptance, and is set out on Article Processing Charges.

How to submit
Three routes are available. Use whichever suits you; the manuscript receives the same handling either way.
Primary route
ManuscriptZone, the publisher’s submission system, where a submission can be tracked through review.
Alternative route
The simple manuscript submission form, which opens with this journal already selected.
Assisted route
The editorial office at [email protected], which will accept a manuscript by email and enter it for you.
One route per manuscript
Authors must use only one submission route for the same manuscript.

The journal also welcomes proposals for focused collections that address important questions in neonatology and newborn health. Researchers with relevant expertise are invited to contact the editorial office at [email protected] with a proposed topic and the expertise behind it.
