Membership
Membership of Open Access Pub is a way of supporting open-access publishing in the International Journal of Neonatology. It is optional, it is separate from submitting a manuscript, and it has no bearing on how a manuscript is assessed.

Membership and the journal
Membership supports the publishing model rather than buying a position in it.
Optional and separate from submission
Membership is optional. A manuscript may be submitted, reviewed, accepted and published without it, and nothing on the submission route depends on it.
What it supports
The journal is open access, so its articles are free to read and its publishing costs are met from article processing charges and from support of this kind. Membership contributes to that work.
Who it is for
Membership is open to researchers, clinicians and institutions with an interest in the journal’s field and in open-access publishing.
Individual
USD 4,500 per year. A reduction in the article processing charge on the member’s own submissions, access to the journal’s issue announcements, and a listing in the member directory.
Institutional
USD 6,200 per year. A reduction in the article processing charge for authors affiliated with the institution, and a named contact in the editorial office.
Lifetime Fellow
USD 9,999, paid once. A reduction in the article processing charge on the member’s own submissions, for as long as the membership stands.
How to join
Membership is arranged by the editorial office, and there is no application form to complete. Write to [email protected] with your name, institutional affiliation, research field and the category you are interested in. Institutional enquiries should name the authors the membership would cover.
Fee relief
Researchers whose circumstances make the membership fee difficult are invited to describe them to the editorial office, which will consider what can be arranged.

Independence
Membership and editorial decisions
This is the part of the arrangement that matters most, so it is stated plainly.
No effect on review or acceptance
Membership confers no advantage in the review or acceptance of a member’s own manuscripts. A member’s manuscript is screened, reviewed and decided on exactly the same terms as any other.
How decisions are made
Editorial decisions are based on scope, scientific quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and relevance to the journal. Decisions remain independent of fees, services, membership, and editorial or reviewer roles.
Review model and handling
Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request. Manuscripts that proceed to external peer review are normally evaluated by at least two independent subject-matter experts. Membership changes none of this, including the order in which manuscripts are handled.
Roles are earned, not purchased
Appointment to the editorial board or invitation to review follows from subject expertise and editorial need, and is decided by the journal.
A member and a non-member submitting the same manuscript receive the same assessment, by the same criteria, on the same timetable.

Charges
Membership and the article processing charge
The article processing charge is a separate matter from membership. It is invoiced after a manuscript has been accepted, and the amount that applies to this journal is published on the Article Processing Charges page.
Any question about what a member pays for an article is settled with the editorial office before acceptance, together with any other billing question, so that it stays separate from the editorial assessment.
