Purpose
Why the journal exists
Applied robotics and artificial intelligence advance through work that has to survive contact with something real: a mechanism, a sensor, a dataset, or a simulation that stands in for the world.
The Journal of Applied Robotics and Artificial Intelligence publishes that work and keeps it openly available. It is edited for researchers and engineers who build and evaluate such systems, and it asks of a contribution what those readers ask: that the claim be stated plainly, that the evidence fit the claim, and that the method be described in enough detail for another group to judge it.
Everything the journal publishes is open access. Authors retain copyright, and articles appear under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International license, so others may share and adapt the work with attribution. The journal's copyright and license terms set out what that means for authors and readers.
Remit
The breadth of the field it covers
The remit follows the title. Robotics and artificial intelligence are treated as one applied field, covering the physical systems, the computational methods, and the work that joins them. Contributions may be experimental, computational, theoretical or methodological, and evidence may come from hardware, from simulation, or from real data, matched to the claim being made.

Readership
Who it is written for
The journal is written for researchers and engineers in universities, research institutes and industry: people who design mechanisms and control systems, who build perception, learning and planning methods, who test them, and who have to decide whether a result can be relied on. It is written as well for the editors and reviewers who assess that work, and for readers in adjacent fields who need to understand what a robotic or machine-learning system can currently be asked to do.

Editorial responsibility

How manuscripts are assessed
All submissions undergo initial editorial screening. Manuscripts that meet the journal's scope and minimum requirements proceed to independent peer review. Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request. Manuscripts that proceed to external peer review are normally evaluated by at least two independent subject-matter experts.
Editorial decisions are based on scope, scientific quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and relevance to the journal. Decisions remain independent of fees, services, memberships, and editorial or reviewer roles. The editorial policies state the journal's position on ethics, corrections and related matters in full.
