Accepted manuscript types: Research Article, Review Article, Systematic Review and Meta-analysis, Methods Article, Case Report, Short Communication, Data/Resource Article. Editorial and Perspective/Commentary are invitation-only.

Authors must use only one submission route for the same manuscript.

What to have ready

A submission moves faster through screening when these are complete at the point of sending.

The manuscriptStructured as the Instructions for Authors set out for your article type, with a title page that names every author and the corresponding author.

Figures and tablesFigures as separate high-resolution files, tables as editable text, each captioned and cited in the text.

DeclarationsFunding, conflicts of interest, ethics approval and consent, author contributions, and the data-availability statement.

Reporting checklistThe guideline checklist that matches the design — CONSORT, STROBE, PRISMA, STARD, CARE or ARRIVE.

RegistrationFor an interventional trial, the registry name, registration number and registration date.

Review preferenceState if you are requesting double-blind review, and prepare the anonymized manuscript accordingly.

What happens to your manuscript

1AcknowledgementThe editorial office confirms receipt and checks that the submission is complete.

2ScreeningAll submissions undergo initial editorial screening. Manuscripts that meet the journal's scope and minimum requirements proceed to independent peer review.

3ReviewSingle-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request. Manuscripts that proceed to external peer review are normally evaluated by at least two independent subject-matter experts.

4DecisionEditorial decisions are based on scope, scientific quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and relevance to the journal. Decisions remain independent of fees, membership, editorial roles and paid services.

5PublicationAn accepted manuscript is copyedited and typeset, a Crossref DOI is registered, and the article is published open access. Articles are published open access under the Creative Commons Attribution License, CC BY 4.0, and authors retain copyright in their work.

The article processing charge applies only after acceptance, and its terms, including withdrawal, are published in full on the charges page.
