Editorial policy
The rules under which the journal publishes
These policies apply to every manuscript submitted to the Journal of Farming and to everyone who handles it. They are publisher policy, applied uniformly to every author, member, editor and reviewer.
Author requirements that follow from these policies are set out in Instructions for Authors; the corresponding duties of editors and reviewers are on For Editors and For Reviewers.

Peer review and decisions
How a manuscript is handled

Screening
All submissions undergo initial editorial screening. Manuscripts that meet the journal's scope and minimum requirements proceed to independent peer review.

Review model
Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request.
Authors who request double-blind review are asked to prepare an anonymized manuscript; the requirements are set out in Instructions for Authors.

Independent assessment
Manuscripts that proceed to external peer review are normally evaluated by at least two independent subject-matter experts.
Reviewers are selected for subject expertise and are asked to declare conflicts before accepting.

Decision
Editorial decisions are based on scope, scientific quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and relevance to the journal.
Decisions rest with the handling editor and are communicated with the reasons for them.

Editorial independence
Editorial decisions are independent of fees, membership, editorial or reviewer roles, and of any paid service.
Editors recuse themselves from decisions on their own submissions; those manuscripts are handled independently.
Ethics, data and integrity
What a submission must carry
Research ethics
Work involving animals, people, or regulated materials must report the approvals and permissions under which it was carried out, together with the approving body.
Interventional clinical trials must be registered in an accepted public trial registry at or before the first participant provides consent for enrollment. The registry name, registration number, and registration date must be reported in the manuscript.
Data and reporting
Every empirical research manuscript must include a data-availability statement.
Methods, site and season conditions, treatments, replication and the statistical approach are reported so that a reader can judge the result and repeat the work.
Authorship and disclosure
Every listed author must have contributed to the work and agreed to the submitted version. Funding, affiliations and competing interests are declared at submission.
Manuscripts must be original and not under consideration elsewhere. Submissions are screened with Crossref Similarity Check, powered by iThenticate, and a similarity report is read in context by the handling editor rather than applied as a threshold.
Correcting the record
Where a published article requires correction, retraction or an expression of concern, the journal issues a notice that is linked to the article and remains part of the permanent record. Published articles and notices remain in the archive permanently.
Concerns about a published article may be raised with the editorial office at any time.
Withdrawal
Withdrawing a submitted manuscript
Authors should contact the editorial office promptly and wait for written confirmation before submitting the work elsewhere.
Manuscripts withdrawn within 3 days of submission are not subject to a withdrawal charge.
Manuscripts withdrawn more than 3 days after submission incur a withdrawal charge equal to 30% of the journal's APC.
Authors must receive official withdrawal confirmation before submitting the manuscript to another journal.
