Preparing a manuscript

What to send, and in what form

These requirements apply to manuscripts submitted to the Journal of Farming. Scope is set out in Aims and Scope; the policies a submission must satisfy are on Editorial Policies.

Send the manuscript as one editable file, with the title page as a separate file so that the manuscript can be sent to reviewers without identifying information when double-blind review is requested.

Manuscript file
Word (.docx) or LaTeX, with numbered sections and continuous line numbering.
Title page
Full author names, affiliations, ORCID identifiers and the corresponding author’s contact details, in a separate file.
Abstract
250–300 words, stating the objective, the method, the main results and what they mean.
Keywords
5–8 terms, using standard crop, livestock, soil and management vocabulary.
Figures and tables
Numbered, with captions that stand alone. Figures at a minimum of 300 DPI in TIFF or EPS.
References
Complete and consistent, with a DOI where the cited work has one.

Reporting the work

What a farming manuscript has to report

01

The system studied

Describe the site or holding, the season or production cycle, the soil and climate conditions, and the variety, crop or class of stock. A reader should be able to place the work.

02

The treatments and the design

State what was varied, at what rate and at what timing, the experimental or sampling design, the replication, and the management common to all treatments.

03

Measurement and analysis

Define every measured variable and how it was obtained, and report the statistical approach, the model where one is fitted, and the basis on which differences are claimed.

04

Ethics and permissions

Report approvals for work involving animals, people or regulated materials, and name the approving body. Interventional clinical trials must be registered in an accepted public trial registry at or before the first participant provides consent for enrollment. The registry name, registration number, and registration date must be reported in the manuscript.

05

Data availability

Every empirical research manuscript must include a data-availability statement.

State where the data are held and the conditions under which they can be obtained.

06

Disclosure

Declare funding, affiliations and competing interests, and disclose any use of generative AI in preparing the manuscript, with what it was used for.

Review

What happens to the manuscript

All submissions undergo initial editorial screening. Manuscripts that meet the journal's scope and minimum requirements proceed to independent peer review.

Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request.

Manuscripts that proceed to external peer review are normally evaluated by at least two independent subject-matter experts.

Editorial decisions are based on scope, scientific quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and relevance to the journal.

If you request double-blind review

For double-blind review, remove author names, affiliations, acknowledgments, funding details, institution names, and other identifying information from the reviewer manuscript. Provide identifying information separately in the title-page file or submission form.

Revisions

Respond to the reviewers point by point, marking the changes in the manuscript, and explain any recommendation you have not adopted.

Submitting

Where to send it

Use one of the approved routes below. The article processing charge and the withdrawal terms are published on the Article Processing Charges page.

Authors must use only one submission route for the same manuscript.
