The charge
What publishing in the journal costs
The Journal of Farming is open access: there is no subscription and no charge to read. Publication is funded by an article processing charge, payable by the author or the author's institution or funder once a manuscript has been accepted.
The charge is confirmed after acceptance and before any payment is requested, and it applies only to manuscripts accepted for publication. Submitting a manuscript is free.

- The editorial office can issue invoices and the documentation institutions and funders require.
What the charge covers
The work the charge pays for
- Editorial handling
- Screening for scope and completeness, selection of the handling editor and management of the review.
- Independent peer review
- Coordination of subject-matter review and of the revision round that follows it.
- Production
- Copyediting, typesetting and publication of the article in web and PDF form.
- Identifiers and metadata
- Registration of the article record and the structured metadata that lets readers and services find it.
- Permanent availability
- Hosting of the published article and of any subsequent correction or retraction notice.
The charge is a publishing cost, and it is separate from the assessment. Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request. Editorial decisions are based on scope, scientific quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and relevance to the journal. Withdrawal terms
If a manuscript is withdrawn
Authors should contact the editorial office promptly and wait for written confirmation before submitting the work elsewhere.
Manuscripts withdrawn within 3 days of submission are not subject to a withdrawal charge.
Manuscripts withdrawn more than 3 days after submission incur a withdrawal charge equal to 30% of the journal's APC.
Authors must receive official withdrawal confirmation before submitting the manuscript to another journal.
Billing and fee-relief inquiries
Before you pay
Authors whose circumstances make the charge difficult are invited to write to the editorial office when the manuscript is submitted, with the manuscript title and the funding position. Fee decisions are made by the editorial office and are separate from the review and the editorial decision.
Institutions that need a particular invoice format, a pro forma invoice or consolidated billing can arrange it with the editorial office before payment.
