Membership
Membership is an optional arrangement with the publisher. It reduces the article processing charge payable on an accepted manuscript, and it supports the journal's open-access publishing.
Submission is open on the same terms to every author, and every manuscript is assessed against the same published criteria, whether or not its authors hold a membership.
How it works
What membership changes
Membership touches one thing only: what an accepted article costs.
A member who has a manuscript accepted pays a reduced article processing charge at the rate for their membership category. The charge still falls due only after acceptance, and the reduction is applied to the invoice.
Membership is held by a person or an institution, runs for a year, and is arranged with the publisher rather than with the journal's editors.
Whether a manuscript goes to review, who reviews it and what the editors decide follow the journal's published criteria alone. Membership confers no advantage in the review or acceptance of a member's own work, and membership status is held apart from editorial assessment.
