Propose a Special Issue
The Journal of Model Based Research welcomes proposals for focused collections that address important questions in model-based research. Researchers with relevant expertise are invited to review the proposal requirements and contact the editorial office.
A collection may be built around a class of models, a methodological problem, a system that several communities model differently, or a question that spans fields. Proposals are welcome from any discipline within the journal's remit.
What a proposal should contain
- A working title and a paragraph stating the question the collection addresses.
- Why a collection serves that question better than individual submissions.
- The proposed guest editor or editors, with their affiliations and relevant publications.
- An indication of the scholarly communities the call would reach.
- A proposed timeline for the call, review and publication.
Where to send it
Send a proposal to the editorial office at [email protected]. The editors will respond with an assessment and, where a proposal is taken forward, agree the scope, the guest editors and the schedule before any call is published.

How a collection is run
Scope
A collection sits inside the journal's published remit. Its call states the question, the kinds of contribution sought and the closing date, and manuscripts are assessed against the same Aims and Scope as any other submission.
Review
Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request.
Manuscripts that proceed to external peer review are normally evaluated by at least two independent subject-matter experts.
Manuscripts submitted to a collection are reviewed on the journal's ordinary terms. A collection is a way of gathering related work, not a different standard.
Guest editors and their own work
Guest editors handle the collection's manuscripts under the journal's editorial policies. A guest editor who is an author of a manuscript in the collection takes no part in handling it; it is assigned to a journal editor instead, and the record shows that it was handled independently.
Decisions and charges
Editorial decisions are based on scope, scientific quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and relevance to the journal.

Regular submissions are open
Manuscripts are welcome throughout the year, whether or not a collection is open. A submission does not need to belong to a collection to be considered.
