Call for Papers Journal of Peptides

A manuscript belongs here when it addresses a substantive peptide-specific scientific question — when what the work adds is about the peptide. That contribution may be chemical, structural, analytical, biological, computational, pharmacological or translational, and none of those is required of the others.

The prompts below are examples of the questions the journal is glad to receive. They are illustrations, not a list of eligible topics, and work that fits the remit without appearing among them is equally welcome.

• A synthetic route, protecting-group strategy or cyclization chemistry that makes something reachable that was not, or reaches it more cleanly.
• A conformational or structural study that explains why a sequence behaves as it does.
• An analytical or peptidomic method that makes peptides measurable where they were difficult to measure.
• A computational or modeling study that predicts structure, property or interaction, with validation appropriate to its method.
• The isolation, identification or characterization of a naturally occurring peptide, and what it does.
• Mechanistic work on signaling, receptor interaction, processing or degradation.
• Pharmacological, efficacy or safety work on a peptide, reported against the claims it makes.
• Peptide materials, delivery and imaging agents, biosensing, and biotechnological, food or agricultural applications.
• Translational and clinically relevant research in which the peptide itself is scientifically central.

First, that the peptide is central to the contribution rather than incidental to it; the Aims and Scope page sets out where the boundary runs.

Second, that the manuscript reports the molecule well enough to be built on — sequence, modifications, purity and the evidence of identity — which the Instructions for Authors describe in full.

Third, that the evidence is matched to the claims. What a manuscript needs to show follows from what it sets out to establish: a synthetic route is carried by its characterization, a structural assignment by the measurements that determine it, a computational result by validation appropriate to its method, and an efficacy or safety claim by the evidence such a claim requires. Setting out the boundary of a result is part of reporting it well, and reviewers read it as such.
