Use whichever route suits you. The manuscript is handled the same way whichever you choose.

Before you submit
What to have ready
Full preparation requirements are on Instructions for Authors; this is the short list.
- Manuscript
- One editable file, Word (.docx) or LaTeX, with numbered sections.
- Title page
- A separate file with author names, affiliations, ORCID identifiers and the corresponding author’s details.
- Abstract and keywords
- 250–300 words, and 5–8 keywords.
- Figures and tables
- Numbered with stand-alone captions; figures at 300 DPI minimum in TIFF or EPS.
- Statements
- Ethics approvals where applicable, data availability, funding and competing interests.
- Scope check
- Confirm the work sits within Aims and Scope, or ask the editorial office first.
After you submit
What happens next

Screening
All submissions undergo initial editorial screening. Manuscripts that meet the journal's scope and minimum requirements proceed to independent peer review.

Review
Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request.
Manuscripts that proceed to external peer review are normally evaluated by at least two independent subject-matter experts.
Ask for double-blind review at submission if you want it, and prepare the anonymized manuscript described in Instructions for Authors.

Decision
Editorial decisions are based on scope, scientific quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and relevance to the journal.
The decision comes from the handling editor with the reasons for it and, where revision is invited, what is required.

Charges
The article processing charge is requested only after acceptance and is confirmed before any payment. The charge and the withdrawal terms are published on the Article Processing Charges page.
